Samsung Devices To Support Blockbuster On Demand

Video on demand is something that many companies are placing a focus on, ensuring that their devices have some sort of VOD capabilities. Samsung is one such company that makes a variety of different devices and now it has signed an agreement with Blockbuster who will be responsible for the streaming content on Samsung products.

According to the agreement, Blockbuster will be responsible for delivering both TV shows and movies while Samsung will provide the hardware, be it tablets, mobile phones, smart television sets or ultrabooks. We should start to see the service begin to arrive on the market before the first half of this year is out and the markets that will be first serviced include Europe, the United States and the United Kingdom. As the year progresses, new markets will also be introduced and these include Australia and Canada.
Currently, Samsung’s focus has not just to create compatible hardware, but it will also include the setup of a global billing system that will allow customers to purchase video content regardless of what Samsung product they are using. There are no details to suggest what Samsung and Blockbuster will charge for their service, but there’s no reason to believe that the charges will be out of line with what others charge for similar services. As such, expect to see video and TV show rentals begin at $1.99 for a 1 day rental. What is also not clear at this time is how Samsung will handle the viewing of video content amongst multiple Samsung devices that are registered to just one owner. Understandably, the expectation would be that there should be no issue in viewing this content on multiple devices, but again, this is something that Samsung will need to confirm.
